Robot Gaze During Autonomous Navigation and Its Effect on Social Presence

چکیده
Abstract As robots have become increasingly common in human-rich environments, it is critical that they are able to exhibit social cues be perceived as a cooperative and socially-conformant team member. We investigate the effect of robot gaze on people’s subjective perceptions mobile socially present entity three hallway navigation scenarios. The tested behaviors were path-oriented (looking at its own future path), or human-oriented nearest person), with fixed-gaze control. conduct real-world study 36 participants who walked through hallway, an online 233 shown simulated videos same Our results suggest preferred behavior scenario-dependent. Human-oriented which acknowledge presence human generally when cross paths. However, this benefit diminished scenarios involve less implicit interaction between human.

Predictive autonomous robot navigation
This paper considers the problem of a robot navigating in a crowded or congested environment. A robot operating in such an environment can get easily blocked by moving humans and other objects. To deal with this problem it is proposed to attempt to predict the motion trajectory of humans and obstacles. Two kinds of prediction are considered: short-term and long-term. The short-term prediction r...

متن کاملBehaviors Coordination and Learning on Autonomous Navigation of Physical Robot
Behaviors coordination is one of keypoints in behavior based robotics. Subsumption architecture and motor schema are example of their methods. In order to study their characteristics, experiments in physical robot are needed to be done. It can be concluded from experiment result that the first method gives quick, robust but non smooth response. Meanwhile the latter gives slower but smoother res...
متن کاملThe effect of robot gaze on processing robot utterances
Gaze during situated language production and comprehension is tightly coupled with the unfolding speech stream in a manner that provides interlocutors with relevant on-line information about both what we intend to say and what we have understood. This paper investigates whether people similarly exploit such gaze when listening to a robot make statements about the shared visual environment. On t...
متن کاملAn Evolutionary Algorithm for Autonomous Robot Navigation
This paper presents an implementation of an evolutionary algorithm to control a robot with autonomous navigation in avoiding obstacles. The paper describes how the evolutionary system controls the sensors and motors in order to complete this task. A simulator was developed to test the algorithm and its configurations. The tests were performed in a simulated environment containing a set of barri...
